It's almost civilized

Well, the island just celebrated it's 25th year of independence. There were many jokes about this; 25 years independent of thought, 25 years independent of intelligence, etc. Former President Bill Clinton even came to the island. Of course that was kept quiet until he had already left. Which is a damn shame because I'd love to meet him.

Itchy and I got to see the biggest fireworks display the Caribbean has ever had. It lasted for about 2.5 minutes. Not joking. These people just don't understand what a fireworks display is suppose to be. Did I tell you about the pathetic fireworks that they had for the 4th of July? Yes, I know it was not their independence day, but geez, there are a lot of Americans here. We could have just gone out and bought a few sparklers. Would have been better. Anyway, for their independence we were very, very close too the fireworks. Probably too close by any kind of safety standards, but those don't exist here.

The biggest news on the island these days is that the new movie theater opened. It's almost like living in a real city. Almost. I haven't been there yet because Itchy is swamped with school stuff (surgery on Wednesday!!!) and the one opportunity that we had to go was squashed by an awful sinus infection. I couldn't really sit upright, so the thought of trying to do so in a movie theater was not appealing. I'm sure we'll get there sooner or later. If only to find out if they sell beer in the concession stands.

There are also rumors of a Burger King coming to the island. You should have seen Itchy's face when he heard that. The boy loves his Whopper Jrs. with no mayo more than words can describe.

Yep, it's almost a civilized country. And just a mere 25 years after gaining their independence.

Technical Issues

I've got them. Blogger or my computer is eating my posts. After the third post was eaten I gave up. I just took a bloggy break. Sorry if any of you thought a hurricane hit me.

I'll wrap up the vacation tales so you can all have closure. Expect one long post on that.

Itchy has his first surgery coming up. Lots of practice has taken place on our kitchen table.

I have new neighbors again. Seem a little different to me, but I don't really know them. They are quiet and keep to themselves. There are four (dad, mom, and 2 teenage kids) of them in a rather small 2 bedroom apartment.

As for me, well, not much. I've got a new workout plan. I think I hate this one more than any other one that I've had. It involves sprinting. Sprinting is hard. It makes my regular treadmill running seem easier though.
