Yeah, so Itchy's dad is also annoying Itchy. Last night it got so bad that Itchy put down food to go deal with it. If you know Itchy, you know that this is a big deal.
You can't upset Stowa and expect to get away with it when Daddy is around.
I really need to change the name of the blog. I no longer have the opportunity to train monkeys to make seashell necklaces.

Pass the brain bleach please!
Itchy owes me. Big time. I don't know that he'll ever actually not owe me ever again.
See we are staying at his parent's house for six and a half weeks. That's right I am living with my in laws for six and a half weeks. To make it even worse, Itchy isn't even here with me. He's off at his externship all day. So I'm here with the in laws with no buffer. FIL is beyond crazy and he annoys the hell out of me. He doesn't like me and makes it pretty obvious. MIL doesn't like me either but she does enjoy having someone to talk to, so at least we have that going for us. Even though she doesn't like me (I'm a huge disappointment), I am her favorite daughter in law simply because I talk to her.
They are both baby hogs. The only time I really get to see her is when she needs to eat. The rest of the time one of them is holding her. MIL, a retired pediatrician, is good with her. No big surprise there. But MIL is also sick. The cancer has taken a lot out of her. She's tired and weak. I don't feel comfortable leaving the baby alone with her for long periods of time. Which means that I have to pretty much sit there with her while she holds the baby. FIL is worse though. He can't be trusted around the baby. His judgement is just terrible. He doesn't respect Itchy and I. We've asked him several times to stop waking Stowa up. He keeps doing it. Not gently either. His method to wake her has generally been to talk very loudly (it's almost yelling)and poke her in the face. I know that him calling Stowa "Princess" isn't going to hurt her, but it annoys the hell out of Itchy and I.
Itchy doesn't even like spending time with his parents so he knows this isn't easy for me. He readily acknowledges that he owes me. Today though, Itchy's debt to me grew exponentially. Apparently I am now doing my MIL's and FIL's laundry. This was not just their towels and socks people. It was their "delicates". No amount of brain bleach will allow me to forget this. The things I saw can not be unseen.

Aunties, Cousins, and a Grandma
First of all we made it to Itchy's parents house on Wednesday. The drive was sucky. The light dusting of snow was practically a blizzard. We saw a lot of cars in the ditch. However, the cats and the baby behaved better than we could have imagined. The cats weren't begging to get out of their kennels. We let them out at every stop and they were ok with being back in the kennels when we needed to get moving again. Stowa kicked ass at this road trip. We left right after she ate and then she slept. We stopped every 3 hours to feed her and she slept in between. There was very little crying.
Second, it's freaking cold here. Really cold. Do Not Like.
Third, Itchy's dad (we'll call him FIL- Father In Law) is already driving me crazy.
Fourth, and most importantly, Stowa got to meet her Grandma, her Aunties, and her cousins this weekend. It was awesome. Not surprisingly, Grandma is totally in love with her. Those Aunties seemed to like her a lot as well. So did the cousins.
They got here on Friday. We meet up with them and hung out. Then for dinner we went to TGI Fridays, which was funny because that is where I told my sisters that I was pregnant way back in April. It was fitting that we went there for Stowa's first restaurant experience.
On Saturday we hung out and played games at the hotel. Then we took the kids to the Science Museum. Obviously it was Stowa's first trip there. But definitely won't be her last. Her nerdy parents have way too much fun there. Grandma bought all the kids a shirt and we got some cute pics of all the kids together in their new shirts.
It was really fun to have them here. I've been missing my nieces like crazy, so it was great to see them. Of course, it was great to introduce Stowa to my mom and sisters too. It meant a lot to me that they all came down to see her.

Isn't technology grand?
This was Stowa's very first Christmas. We didn't really do anything special but I did buy her a little shirt that says Baby's First Christmas. She also received a little dress that isn't specifically a Christmas dress but is definitely a holiday dress.
So this morning (well, it was around 11am) I get her all dressed up in her little dress, take a couple of pictures and then sat down to email them to family and friends. Except today the camera and the computer decide that they are no longer compatible. Apparently they have broken up. They won't even try to talk to one another.
I just hope they can make up soon because if not, I have no problem going all "Office Space" (remember the fax machine scene?) on them both!
ETA: It was a Christmas miracle! After I threatened them both they magically started to cooperate. Still not working like they should but at least I'm getting somewhere.

Merry Christmas
Hope everyone has a great day!
Itchy doesn't really do Christmas so it'll be a pretty normal day around here. I've got plans to make a big dinner but we'll see how much actually gets done (standing for long periods of time is still causing me pain, stupid c-section). Itchy also has to work this evening so Stowa and I will be on our own. Tomorrow we've been invited to a friends house for food and games, but Itchy has to work, so we'll see if that works out.

Dang it
So I had something I was going to write about but every time I get a minute I forget what exactly it was. It must not have been that exciting.
Anyway, here's a rather strange story for you. Itchy, Stowa, and I had to go to Home Depot the other day. While Itchy was dealing with cutting boards cut Stowa and I walked around. We passed by a guy with a 3-4 year old little boy. The little boy was all excited because I had a "real baby". Like he was really, oddly, excited about seeing a "real baby". It became clear why when a few minutes later Stowa and I walked past a lady that had a doll in a car seat. Yeah. She was walking around with a doll (not realistic looking at all) in an infant car seat. Yep, I'm judging her. Weirdo.
Not much else going on. Stowa is smiling and talking a lot more these days but stops as soon as the camera comes out. It's pretty funny.
In only 2 more weeks we will be going to Itchy's parent's house for 6 weeks. I'm not looking forward to it. Especially since Itchy won't be there to be the buffer. I really hope they don't think things are going to be like they were when they came here to visit. You know, where the only time I get to hold my baby is when she is starving (because his dad wouldn't just freaking give her to me when she was showing hunger signs). That's not happening.
Luckily for you guys, I will need to vent a lot. This should produce some funny stories.

1 month old
How is it possible that a month has gone by already?
Pregnancy goes by so slowly and then you have a baby and the days fly by. It's not fair. Being pregnant sucks but the newborn days are fun. And exhausting. And painful. But way better than being pregnant.
Stowa is doing great. She's starting to "talk" to us which is fun. This morning she was admiring the baby in the mirror which was adorable. I'm a little afraid to type this as I don't want to jinx myself but she's also sleeping pretty well at night. We get up every three hours to eat but she goes right back to sleep 90% of the time. She may look nothing like me but she may have inherited my love of sleep.
Itchy is still on vacation. It's been really, really awesome having him around the last month. I'm sure Stowa and I would have survived if he would have had to have been in school but life is a heck of a lot better with him here.
The cats and the baby seem to be getting along too. Cuddles and Patches both sat on Stowa's lap the other day (while Stowa was sitting with me, we don't leave her unattended with the cats just yet). Patches is being rather obnoxious though. She's always been naughty but it seems worse these days. I'm sure it's just that we're a little more tired and she's getting less attention (i.e. she's bored).
